Argumentative Teen?

Do you have a teen who seems argumentative? Do they argue one-sidedly? Do you want to help him? Teenpact may be what you’re lookin for.

Teenpact is set up in each state designed for homeschoolers. They gather together for four days learning the legislative process, debating, while learning our Christian heritage. We meet in Jefferson City, do classes, tour the capitol, and meet with elected officials. The teens make their own bills and debate them in committee lunches. I highly recommend it.

Missouri has grown to have three Teenpact classes. The first class usually has cold, icy weather, not very conducive for walking to and from the Capitol. The second class fills up quickly, and it is already full. We choose the third class, going in April with tulips blooming and green grass.

Cost?

Yes, there is a cost to attend. But how much is your child’s education worth? Firth, there are ways to fund raise. Businesses often donate to help the teen’s trip. Next, a little extra work goes a long way. Next, there are scholarships and discounts available. Next, I, personally, know of a local scholarship available.

We usually stay at a local hotel. While groups often stay at larger, more expensive hotels, I can get by, stay closer, and walk. We get a free breakfast and buy Walmart dinners. However, Teenpact does offer a dinner option.

There is homework expected to be completed. And business attire is a necessity. For the ten years we have been attending, I have gotten all of their suits and accessories from thrift stores and mix-matched shirts and ties.

While St. Louis and Kansas City, even Ava, have large groups that attend, it would be good to have a larger showing from Oregon County. We can carpool, too to save expenses.

I have felt that money was the most difficult part: class, gas, food, hotel. Sharing with another family helps a lot!
