A  new report by The Washington Post found that homeschooling is the fastest-growing form of education in the U.S.

The Post estimates there are between 1.9 and 2.7 million homeschooled children in America. That’s a 51% increase over the last six school years. Over the same period, private schooling grew 7%, and public schooling dropped by 4%. Many parents are choosing homeschooling after the strict, unreasonable closure of public schools due to the covid virus. Parents are also more aware of what is taught in the public system as more news reports come out about angry or depressed teenagers.

States with the largest increases in homeschooling include the New York, California, and Hawaii. 

Though many thought that the public school enrollment would return after the pandemic was passed, parents are continuing to educate their children at home. The Post noted that the growth of homeschooling demonstrates it as a mainstay of the American education system. Homeschooling will have an impact—on society, on public schools.
