You Don’t Have To Reinvent The Wheel
It’s a new school year for many families. While we get excited to begin new courses with new books and materials, sometimes all of that newness can get overwhelming. Here are a few tips to keep you going.
- Stay involved in a homeschooling community. Your problems are theirs. Their problems are yours. It can be easier knowing someone else is going through the same problems. I struggled for years getting my sons to spell correctly. What is wrong with Me? Until I heard a mom further along who had the same problem. She finally gave it to the Lord and prayed that the daughters-in-law would be good spellers.
- Live one day at a time. Tomorrow will have its worries. Handle one stress at a time. Before you know it, the day will be done.
- Delegate chores. Each child of mine had chores to do. Some were before school began, like doing the dishes. Then during our 15 minute breaks, the older girls had to hand out the laundry while the boys collected wood for fires. Something physical and outdoors refreshed their minds and bodies, while easing my day. After school, other chores began. I learned that as each child had chores, they became a vital part of the family.
These are a few suggestions to get you started. Experienced parents have as many different ideas to make the day go smoothly as there are people in their lives. Pretty soon, you may be the one offering advice.
